Leopold The Hogmouth Silver 3 Kreuzer - NGC Graded Coin in Slab - (MG). Born in 1640 Vienna, Leopold I served as Holy Roman Emperor from 1657 to 1705.

A true patron of the arts and culture, Leopold was an amateur composer known for his aesthetic sensibility, even though he took part in several wars, especially against Louis XIV's France, with little success. Despite his military challenges, he notably succeeded in repelling the Turks from Hungary, which had been under Ottoman control since 1526. As a devoted Catholic, he sought to eradicate Protestantism within his empire, but his efforts met with limited success. Leopold is primarily remembered in history for his mandibular pronathism, commonly referred to as Habsburg jaw. This genetic trait resulted from generations of inbreeding among European royal families, including Leopold's, leading to various genetic defects. His nephew, the extremely inbred Charles VII of Spain, was born with several disabilities highlighting the consequences of such unions. The silver coin featuring Leopold portrays him with an exaggerated "hogmouth, " an image that doesn't truly represent his actual appearance, though it contributed to the whimsical nickname.
