The practice continued until 1935. This coin, of 90% silver to match the well-established Spanish silver dollar, was minted in London. In light of the high turnover rate of coinage in the Hong Kong marketplace, it is a wonder that this coin appears to have been barely circulated. The obverse shows Britannia with a trident and shield, and in the distance, a commercial clipper; on the reverse, the denomination in Chinese and Malay. A brilliant and rare coin.
