1822 Peru 8 Reales (provisional) in AU condition. This is the first 8 reales minted in the Republic of Peru after the revolution against Spain began. This provisional coin was minted for just 2 years: 1822 and 1823. During the time that Lima was retaken and briefly held by Royalist forces, many of these coins were counterstamped with a crown and 1824. As it is the first real coin of the Peruvian Republic, it is a very popular issue and tough to find in higher grades.
