For your World Silver Coin Collection-SWI059. Description: Beautiful lustrous undated silver coin from Switzerland.
This is a quarter Taler or Thaler coin from the city state of Basel. The obverse of the coin shows the city view with the Rhine River in the middle for the length of the coin and a bridge in the center of the obverse. There are buildings with many steeples along the river banks with many boats floating in the river and the word "BASILEA" above the scene within a banner. The denomination 1/4 is within some sort of a shield below the scene. The reverse shows the arms of the city of Basel within an oval in the center surrounded by various arms within ovals along the edge. The reverse also has a beaded edge. The medal has a plain rim and is in medal orientation. This is a rare and very desirable coin that is difficult to find in such good grade. The coin is much better than the photos suggest.
It has some light surface scratches as well as minor bag marks. It also has a dark spot or stain at about 2 o'clock on the obverse. These are all minor issues and do not distract from the beauty and quality of this great coin. It is beautiful and shiny with great eye appeal.
